Since 2006 and the Casino Royale reboot of the Bond universe, Bond’s company car has been an Aston Martin DBS. Daniel Craig’s 007 is different to all those who came before – uncompromisingly tough, but emotional. He wins his first Aston – a DB5 – in a poker game and, as a newly instated Double-0, the DBS comes next.
In the latest film, Quantum of Solace, Bond picks up from where Casino Royale ended, avenging the death of love interest Vespa Lynd (played by Eva Green). The DBS plays a bigger role, starring in a spectacular chase around Lake Garda for the pre-title sequence – Craig took Aston Martin’s advanced driving course at Millbrook in preparation for the high-speed chase.
During filming, three DBSs were used (Aston now owns two; Eon, the other), plus a handful of engineering development cars that would have had to be scrapped for legal reasons anyway.
The car pictured is the film’s ‘hero’ car and, despite its greyness, the colour is described as Quantum Silver. James Bond and Aston Martin are now inextricably linked – and the association looks set to continue for years to come.
