This year’s Wings and Wheels Day at Dunsfold Aerodrome, near Guildford, was a great day out combining breathtaking air displays, flat out car runs down the old bomber runway and car club gatherings.
Looking skyward the massive crowd witnessed dogfighting WWI biplanes and triplanes, WWII fighters and bombers, swirling parachutists, inch perfect aerobatic teams and the Typhoon Eurofighter performing gravity defying feats and stomach wrenchingly impossibly tight turns on full afterburners.
On terra firma, the Brooklands Museum’s Napier Railton, a tire shredding Napier Bentley and a Merlin engined monster tore down the runway, along with a mix of cars and motorcycles that included a Porsche 962 Group C, a Lola F3000 single seater, a Lamborghini Muira, a De Tomaso Pantera, a Mercedes SLR, a 300SL Gullwing, Porsche Carrera GT, Ferrari Enzo and F50, a gaggle of pre-War Bentleys, Maseratis, racing sidecar outfits, three and four wheeled Morgans, a large Aston Martin, Ferrari, AC, Jaguar and Lotus contingent, Dodge Vipers, Corvettes, Mustangs, GTD40s and even a Peterbilt truck. As they say, something to please everyone.
