The stylish DBS gains added appeal by losing its head...

The fabric-topped Aston Martin DBS Volante makes its first appearance at the Geneva Motor Show, and builds on the appeal of the company's top of the range coupe. The power folding roof will drop in a mere 14 seconds at up to speeds of 30mph, and cleverly retains the looks of the tin-top car - so, it promises to look just as good open or closed..

Cosmetic tweaks toughen up the convertible - new air intakes, splitter and bonnet air vents, give the front end more presence, while the DBS coupe's singnature side skirts and clear rear lenses remain. Performance is slightly dulled, thanks to a 115kg hike in kerb weight (to 1810kg), but is still more than sprightly, with a 0-60mph time of 4.1seconds - but the maximum speed remains - impressively - the same at 191mph. DBS Volante sales are expected to begin in the autumn with a list price of around £170,000.
