The inaugural La Dolce Vita worked hard to deliver a unique experience on the greens of the Bayonet Black Horse golf course on Friday August 14. With Concorso Italiano already catering for the mass ranks of Italian car lovers, and The Quail satisfying the needs of the connoisseur, it was always difficult to understand where La Dolce Vita would fit in.
For those who were there, the show was informal and relaxed, and entrants obviously enjoyed the chance to show off their cars to each other. Unfortunately the number and quality of vehicles were not sufficient, and the visitor numbers were very disappointing.
The Best of Show - a Lancia Series 8 Lambda - however, was a deserving winner. Lamborghinis took a number of awards including best custom car for a Murcielago, most exotic for a Muira SV, and most extreme for a Murcielago GTR.
The organizers have a three-year plan for the event, but the initial La Dolce Vita leaves much work to be done if it is to continue into the future.
