Kicking off the Retromobile for Artcurial will be the highly-anticipated sale of the Matra 650 sports racing car, from 1969. The first of only three of its type built, this is bound to attract worldwide interest as demand for pukka competition cars with a guaranteed history remains strong, as buyers continue to chase provenance. Although the competition record of this cars doesn't include victory at Le Mans (it came fourth), it's still rather special, as its 1969 driver line-up includes greats such as Beltoise, Courage, Rodriguez, Pecarolo and Brabham. In terms of face wins, it chalked up a memorable first place at the Paris 1000km – backing up a season of strong results. The other two 650s remain in private hands (one being on display at the Matra museum at Romorantin-Lenthenay), so this car coming up for sale represents a serious opportunity for Matra enthusiasts. It's also ready to compete – unlike the 660 and 670, the 650 is road legal making it fully eligible for events such as the Tour de France and Le Mans Classic. The car will be sold with all the necessary parts to go racing along with a dismantled but complete MS12 engine – it is also fully FIA certified.
