Opening the new season in excellent form, Brooklands attracted a hardy bunch of New Years enthusiasts...

Against the odds the weather for the New Year Gathering at Brooklands was beautifully sunny albeit cold, enticing over 2500 people to attend, and 356 classic cars, both new records for the event. The gates opened at ten o’clock and Classic cars from all eras poured in throughout the day ignoring the possible damage from the salted and gritted roads, the cut off date was 1973, but not  every pre ’73 car was turned away.Pride of place outside the club house was reserved for pre-war classics including Morgans , Delages Bentleys and an ex Hawthorn Riley.A host of Fiat 500s were bookended between a Danish Hawker Hunter and a Lancaster cockpit section recreated to be used as a film set.Everywhere you strolled there were gems, many Lotus Elans, Droopsnoot Firenzas, American Muscle and Rods, classic Jaguars E-Types and an XKS-S, Ferraris, Lea-Francis, Porsches, Alvis,Morris Minors, the list goes on and on.The largest collection was of Mercedes-Benz in the old Paddock area, in recognition of the neighbours.
