A huge hit from first production began in 1949, the Volkswagen Type 2 Bus was manufactured in various forms for three decades in the United States. Very early examples are very hard to find today, and the generations of improvements and extra horsepower prove the mid to late 1960's examples the most desired, especially in multi-passenger form. For the first time in many years, the St. Louis Car Museum is able to offer a wonderfully kept and restored Volkswagen Microbus! We are delighted to showcase this beautiful 1964 VW Type 2 Deluxe 13-window example! It comes to us finished in Mint Green & White two-tone with deluxe exterior trim, chrome bumpers with over riders, 15 chrome wheels, front Wipac fog lamps, and a wood-slatted roof rack! Inside, the seats are nicely matched using Medium Green vinyl upholstery accented with Turquoise piping throughout! Three rows of full bench seating offers plenty of passenger space! It remains a wonderfully solid vehicle, and presented with a restoration completed within the last several years to our best estimation. It recently hails from a large, beautiful collection located in Texas with original floors and outstanding chassis! All original VW side window glass still remains, as well as the original, factory-installed 1500cc engine offering 51 horsepower with Solex 28 PICT-1 carburetion. Source the chassis number (1274938) with the engine number (0495742), both support this as a numbers correct Microbus built in March of 1964.
