OVERVIEW

1948 Studebaker Other Studebaker Models

  • DESCRIPTIONOriginal owner used it as a farm truck in Colorado for 50 years. It was barn stored until I bought and had it shipped out to CA in 2002. Tires, Brakes, rewired, flywheel, starter, plugs, replaced the power takeoff drive shaft, carb reworked. Original dash, instruments, steering wheel, seat, headliner, etc. Cab is green with black fenders, the bed quite decent wood in original red painted steel. 2 and a half foot stakes on 3 and a half foot stakes - 6 foot stake height. Dual 20" rear wheels - 15000 pound gross capacity (the truck weighs in at just under 7000 pounds). There is a working dual hydraulic lift for the bed (yes, its a dump truck). 2 speed rear end and has been converted to 12 volt and alternator (have the original generator). The gas tank was remove, cleaned out and put back in. There is an additional steel grill on the front end. There are of course extras; I've kept records; have manuals. The emergency brake is disk and integrated to the drive shaft; the brakes are an unusual power assist. This (1948) was the last model year for the M series Studebaker trucks (the third rendition of their big flat head six which began in 1940 and was used during WWII. The truck is licensed, insured and running. I bought it and have used it as a working truck - it is not in show-restored condition. My original reason for buying it was to have a strong, versatile, somewhat simplistic working construction truck I'd use for materials hauling to assist in the building of a place in the Sierras. Conversion to alcohol was part of the plan. After ten years, that is no longer my working premise. Generally, parts are fairly easy and usually relatively inexpensive to get - I like the Studebaker support system and the folks/owners associated with Studebaker. I've set the insured value of the truck at ten thousand dollars. The NADA value set high retail at $28,400, average retail at $16,000, low retail at $7,950 and the Original MSRP at $3,555 (for a 1 ton M15A)
