DESCRIPTIONWe owned an American Motors dealership, and sold this car new. It was traded back to in the mid-80's at which time we completely rebuilt it. Although it is a 1971 model, the engine and transmission are from a 1972 model. It was painted red, white, and blue as those were the Mark Donahue racing colors during the Trans-Am racing seasons. The original model was an SST, but we added features to make it look like the AMX that Mark Donahue raced. It has a 360 V8 engine with a 4-barrel carb., a high rise manifold, and dual point ignition. It also has a 727 automatic transmission. We installed a lock-up rear end, rear spoiler, front spoiler, fiberglass hood, new grille, and had all the upholstery redone inside. This vehicle won 2nd place in the non-stock division at the 1987 AMO Nationals in 1987. We used the vehicle to promote our business which we sold in 2001. Everything on the vehicle was rebuilt and refurbished, and although we have had a lot of fun with the car, we are getting older and need to down-size. It runs and looks great!
